St.-Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" is one of the leading centres of higher education and research in Russia (about 9000 students, 1100 lecturers and professors).
1886 - Founded in St.-Petersburg as the Engineering College of the Russian Post and Telegraph Department.
1891 – The Engineering College was re-organized into the Imperial Institute of Electrical Engineering.
1992 – The institute was granted the university status.
1969 – The Microwave Microelectronics Laboratory (MWLab) was founded. The MWLab belongs to the School of Radio Engineering and Telecommunications and to the School of Electronics
The staff of the laboratory includes 2 professors (Irina Vendik, the head of the MWLab, and Orest Vendik), two associate professors (Svetlana Zubko and Margarita Sitnikova), one assistant professor (Dmitry Kholodnyak), two researches, seven PhD students, and five master students.
The laboratory is involved as a partner in two FP6 European projects (NoE “Metamorphose” and “Nanostar”), one FP7 European project (“Nanointerface”), and three Russian national projects.
The numerous publications of the scientists of the MWLab are related to
- physics and microwave applications of high-temeperature superconductors
- physics and microwave applications of ferroelectrics
- design of microwave devices: phase shifters, directional couplers, filters, duplexers
- design of printed antennas and antenna array
- design of metamaterials and microwave devices based on metamaterials
The MWLab organized seven International Student Seminars for European students (1995-2008), one Distributed European PhD School (2006), focused and special sessions on European Microwave Conferences, PIERS, Metamaterial Congress et al.
