Project Description
From a large number of available oxide ferroelectrics we will concentrate mainly on BaxSr1-xTiO3 systems for the following reasons. Metal oxide ferroelectrics are rather complex material systems in terms of understanding of the involved physics, especially if nanostructured. The other similar perovskites are less studied for microwave applications and may require considerably more research efforts, involve higher risk in terms of successful execution of the project. Moreover, any positive result and new finding related to BaxSr1-xTiO3 will help (used) European companies in accelerated and successful commercialisation of ferroelectrics in tuneable microwave devices and systems. Finally, BaxSr1-xTiO3 systems are lead-free, hence environmentally friendly.
The main research activities are planned in four workpackages. A special workpackage (WP6) is dedicated to the management. Besides coordination activities it includes also preparation and participation in the project meetings, and project administration within contractors organisations. The main research workpackages cover fundamental theory of nanostructured ferroelectric film (WP1), fabrication/nanostructure/electric/dielectric characterisation (WP2), validation via device demonstrators/circuit applications (WP3), industrial relevance (WP4), dissemination and use planning (WP5).
